Grounding and Orientation Meeting for New Board Members

Dear Past and Present IAAGT Board Members,

We warmly invite you to join a grounding and orientation meeting for both new and continuing members of the IAAGT Board.

This gathering is intended to support the current 2026 IAAGT Board members by providing an opportunity to hear from those who have previously served, as well as those currently serving, about their experiences in various board roles and positions. We would also like to hear from our newer members about their experiences so far, including where they feel supported and where additional support may be helpful.

The meeting will provide a space for open dialogue, where new and experienced board members alike can ask questions, explore new possibilities, and gain greater clarity regarding both past and present board roles and responsibilities.

In addition, this gathering offers an opportunity to reflect on the diversity of our international Gestalt approaches, to share what inspired each of us to serve on this dynamic international board, and to consider both the challenges and the growth that come with our collective work.

Most importantly, this is a chance to connect with one another, strengthen our relationships, and continue building a collaborative and supportive IAAGT community.

Dear colleagues, A reminder that our next bi-monthly online CAEAIG meeting (CAEAIG stands for Child, Adolescent and Emerging Adult Interest Group) takes place at 7pm BST (UK time) on July 7th  (see flier for details and Zoom link). All IAAGT members are welcome to join this open meeting. Equally, if you or your colleagues or students are considering joining IAAGT, you / they are welcome to ‘tune in’ and see if these informal free flowing meetings could be of interest …. On Tuesday I suggest we start with a short check in, perhaps followed by a visualisation/ orienting exercise….People may want to discus how young people in therapy are bringing into sessions experiences of current world turbulences. Or we can review some ways of helping young clients ‘over the threshold’ into experiencing dialogic therapy.  Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed! Neuroscientific research by Dr Alexa Mousley et al (November 2025; University of Cambridge) suggests that adolescent brain development in urban contexts starts from age 9 years and tends to complete / mature around age 32 years. This raises some interesting questions about policy, teaching and praxis of psychotherapy and counselling with younger adults. Gender Identity and Expression in the Emerging Field: A Gestalt Perspective

We are living in a historical moment in which gender has become a site of intense social,
political, and epistemological conflict. Across global contexts, particularly in the United
States and the United Kingdom, gender-diverse lives are increasingly subjected to public
scrutiny, legislative restriction, and ideological polarization. What has been emerging as a
field of affirmation and clinical evolution is now actively contested.
Within this landscape, psychotherapists are not neutral observers. We are part of the field.
This introductory workshop, offered to members of the International Association for the
Advancement of Gestalt Therapy, invites participants into a critical and experiential
exploration of gender identity and expression through the lens of Gestalt therapy. Grounded
in field theory, relational presence, and embodied awareness, the workshop approaches
gender not as a fixed or internal trait, but as a dynamic and co-created process at the
boundary of contact.

The workshop is based on the one-year training program offered by Athenian Gestalt on
Gender Expansive Identities & Expressions. Integrating Gestalt therapy with contemporary
GSRD-informed, queer, and community-based frameworks. It draws on over 16 years of
sustained clinical and community-based work as Head of the Department of Health at the
Greek Transgender Support Association (GTSA), shaped through direct engagement with
trans, non-binary, intersex and gender-expansive communities.

Participants will be invited to explore:

 gender as an expanding, relational, and embodied process
 the impact of sociopolitical backlash on therapeutic practice
 shame, resistance, and resilience within gender-diverse experiences
 the therapist’s position within the field, including biases and introjections
 ethical and non-pathologizing ways of being in clinical contact
This is not a skills-based training. It is an invitation to shift perception, deepen awareness,
and engage with gender as an evolving field of experience.
